About This Service

House Rewires by NICEIC Approved Electricians

Old wiring is one of the most common causes of electrical fires and failed safety inspections in older Black Country homes. CT Electrical carries out full and partial house rewires across Dudley, Kingswinford, Stourbridge and the West Midlands — planned properly, kept as tidy as possible, and fully certified when finished.

A rewire is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. As an NICEIC Approved contractor we notify building control for you and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate, which you'll need when you sell the property.

Is It Time?

Signs Your House Needs Rewiring

Most wiring installed before the 1960s is now well past its intended life, and even later installations can be damaged by previous DIY work or alterations.

If you're not sure, an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) will tell you whether your wiring needs replacing, partial work, or just a few repairs.

Common Warning Signs

  • Old rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cables
  • A fuse box with rewireable fuses instead of breakers
  • Circuits that trip regularly or lights that flicker
  • Scorch marks, warm sockets or a burning smell
  • Too few sockets and lots of extension leads
  • Wiring that's 25+ years old and never been inspected
How We Work

A Rewire Planned Around You

We survey the property first, agree socket and lighting positions with you, and give you a clear quote before any work starts. Where we can, we plan the work room by room so you can keep living in the house.

Once the new installation is in, every circuit is tested and you receive full certification and Part P notification.

Got Questions?

House Rewiring FAQs

How do I know if my house needs a rewire?

Warning signs include old rubber or fabric cables, a fuse box with rewireable fuses, frequent tripping, flickering lights, scorch marks on sockets, or wiring that hasn't been inspected for decades. An EICR will confirm whether a rewire is needed.

Can I stay in my home during a rewire?

Often, yes. We can plan the work room by room to keep disruption down, although there will be times without power. We'll agree the plan with you before we start.

Is a house rewire notifiable under Part P?

Yes. A full or partial rewire is notifiable work. As an NICEIC Approved contractor we notify building control on your behalf and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate.

How much does a house rewire cost?

It depends on the property size, number of circuits and accessories, and access. See our West Midlands rewire cost guide, or call 01384 869399 for a free survey and fixed quote.

Does a rewire include a new consumer unit?

A full rewire normally includes a new consumer unit with RCD and surge protection, so the whole installation meets current regulations.
