The OZEV EV Charger Grant Just Changed — Here's What It Means for You in 2026

If you've been putting off getting an EV charger installed because you weren't sure what support is still available, now's a good time to look again — the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant changed significantly this year, and depending on your situation, it could now cover more of the cost than before.

What's changed

From 1 April 2026, the maximum grant per socket increased from £350 to £500 — a genuine jump in support, funded through to 31 March 2027. That's the good news. The eligibility rules, however, remain tightly focused: this isn't a general homeowner grant.

Who's actually eligible

  • Renters living in rented accommodation
  • Flat owners (including shared ownership)
  • Landlords installing chargers for tenants
  • Households relying on on-street parking, subject to local authority approval and a compliant cross-pavement charging solution

Who isn't eligible

If you own a standard house outright with your own driveway, you won't qualify for this particular grant — that's been the case since 2022, and it hasn't changed with this year's update. It catches a lot of people out, because the scheme's name doesn't make the restriction obvious.

What this means practically

If you're a landlord in Dudley, Kingswinford, or anywhere across the Black Country with tenants who drive (or are considering) an electric vehicle, this is genuinely worth acting on now — £500 per socket is a meaningful reduction, and the scheme has a confirmed end date of March 2027.

If you're a flat owner or renter, talk to your landlord if needed, confirm you have suitable off-street parking, and get a quote from an OZEV-approved installer before you commit — the grant is claimed by the installer and deducted from your invoice, not paid to you directly.

What to do next

  1. Check which category you fall into (renter, flat owner, landlord, or on-street parking household)
  2. Confirm your intended charger is on the OZEV-approved list — we install all major approved brands including Ohme, Zappi, Hypervolt, Pod Point, and Andersen
  3. Get a free survey and quote from an OZEV-authorised installer before any work begins

We're OZEV Authorised, NICEIC Certified, and fully insured, and we install EV chargers across Dudley, Kingswinford, Wolverhampton, and the wider West Midlands. If you're not sure whether you qualify, give us a call on 01384 869399 and we'll talk you through it honestly.
